In general this will be at the discretion of the boat owner, although some European countries do require an ICC certificate (equivalent to RYA Day Skipper) for boats over a certain size. An RYA Day Skipper certificate is usually a safe bet for most boats; or submit a sailing CV if you’ve done a lot of boating but never taken this out. Smaller boats will need less experience, but boat owners will usually like to know that you’ve at least handled a boat before.

If in doubt ask the boat owner, and there’s always the option of booking a skipper for the trip. This has its own benefits and will allow you to kick back with your family and friends; relax into the sail whilst someone else gets you from A to B. Hosts are also available for meal provisioning, and full crews for larger boats. See the optional extras on each individual boat listing for what’s available.

We say that 6-8 weeks a year is as much as is realistic to expect on average. There’s more chance of getting to nearer the top end of this with favourable reviews on the site and positive customer feedback. Just choose the dates you want to use your boat for, then leave it to us to fill it on the other weeks.

Generally we advise that it will not be possible to make any significant profit, but chartering your boat out will likely cover annual running costs of the boat, including mooring fees, insurance and maintenance costs.

A high quality narrowboat with excellent facilities. 49ft Semi traditional stern narrowboat. Quiet water-cooled diesel engine with simple controls. Instruction and buoyancy aids supplied free of charge.

Boat design features: Full radiator central heating. Hot and cold running water supplied from a 200 gallon water tank. Double filtered drinking water system. 2kw Inverter that supplies 240 volt electricity to certain appliances and sockets on the boat. (Please note that if you decide to use any of your own appliances you do so at your own risk). Carpeting in saloon and bedroom. Security box. This new boat also has: LED lighting throughout , wider beds, TV in bedroom and saloon, large mirror in the bathroom, shower with bi-fold door , a front deck table , 4 speaker radio/CD, extractor in the bathroom.

On board features: Free Wi-Fi, Radio/CD player with 4 speakers, colour televisions with DVD players, hairdryer, vacuum cleaner, 12v Mobile phone charging point (Bring your own car charging lead). 1 medium size towel per crew member, plus 1 hand towel per bathroom. Welcome pack including: 1 bottle of washing up liquid, 1 dish cloth, 1 tea towel, 1 floor cloth, toilet roll & bin liner. Helmsman’s waterproofs & umbrella.

Bedding arrangements: Sleeps up to 4. Choice of extendable fixed double or two single berths in the rear cabin with interior sprung mattresses, and optional dinette double in saloon. Freshly laundered bedding for each crew member. Additional bedding available on request. (Select your preferred layout option above).

Kitchen: Fully equipped galley with 4 burner gas cooker complete with grill and oven and extractor fan, refrigerator, sink and drainer, work surfaces and storage space. Microwave oven, toaster and filter coffee machine. Suitable saucepans, cooking utensils, crockery and cutlery etc. for the number of berths.

Bathroom: Bathroom with hand basin, electrically operated flush toilet, and shower. 240v shaver socket.

More Information

Pets: Pets are more than welcome on board our boats. The first pet is FREE and any additional pets are charged at £30 each (normally a maximum of 2)

Price: The price includes VAT, bed linen, towels, free car parking (at owners risk), life jackets (on request but compulsory for non swimmers and under 18’s), full boat inventory and tuition at start of holiday plus a 24 hour emergency helpline. A compulsory £50 non-returnable Damage Waiver is included in the hire cost of the boat.

Fuel: The boat is handed over ready fuelled, but the cost of hire does not include the fuel consumed. A fuel deposit of £90 per week up to 2 weeks or £50 per short break is payable 8 weeks before the start of your holiday with your balance of hire. On return to the marina at the end of your holiday period the boat will be refuelled and any difference to the deposit paid will either be refunded or charged.

Cancellation Protection: It is recommended that you have your own cancellation protection insurance in case you have to cancel your holiday.

Hire Times: Pick-up time is 2.30pm (latest arrival 4pm) and your boat must be returned by 9am (for 9.30am vacation) on your last day of hire.
