In general this will be at the discretion of the boat owner, although some European countries do require an ICC certificate (equivalent to RYA Day Skipper) for boats over a certain size. An RYA Day Skipper certificate is usually a safe bet for most boats; or submit a sailing CV if you’ve done a lot of boating but never taken this out. Smaller boats will need less experience, but boat owners will usually like to know that you’ve at least handled a boat before.

If in doubt ask the boat owner, and there’s always the option of booking a skipper for the trip. This has its own benefits and will allow you to kick back with your family and friends; relax into the sail whilst someone else gets you from A to B. Hosts are also available for meal provisioning, and full crews for larger boats. See the optional extras on each individual boat listing for what’s available.

We say that 6-8 weeks a year is as much as is realistic to expect on average. There’s more chance of getting to nearer the top end of this with favourable reviews on the site and positive customer feedback. Just choose the dates you want to use your boat for, then leave it to us to fill it on the other weeks.

Generally we advise that it will not be possible to make any significant profit, but chartering your boat out will likely cover annual running costs of the boat, including mooring fees, insurance and maintenance costs.

Details

A beautiful high quality yacht with remarkable sailing performance. The Beneteau Oceanis 45 is perfect for those who like a touch of luxury when sailing as a family or a group of friends.

New to the fleet for 2018, Skylark came to us straight out of the wrapper from Beneteau! We hope you will be as excited about her as we are.

Accommodation: Her 4 cabin layout with 2 heads and huge saloon makes for ample accommodation for up to 10 guests. (4 double cabins and double berth conversion in the saloon.) Central heating in all cabins will ensure that you always feel cosy and at home whilst on board.

The galley and main saloon area is light and airy with the layout perfectly thought out for entertaining, relaxing or socialising. The leather upholstery and mahogany finish of the interior add an extra touch of class.

The wide decks and vast cockpit area ensure that there are plenty of places to sit and enjoy the views no matter what the weather. The twin helm steering positions are laid out with comfort and practicality in mind and afford good visibility. All of the latest instrumentation is available to you with GPS, chart plotter, auto-helm and AIS all fitted in addition to wind, speed and depth gauges. The rear seat in the cockpit drops down to create a bathing platform or easy access area when moored stern-to. The cockpit area also boasts a hot/cold shower for washing the salt off after a refreshing swim!

Fitted with a Yanmar 57HP engine this fabulous yacht is fully prepared to get you to your destination with ease. She is also equipped with a bow thruster to aid manoeuvres in tighter spaces and an electric windlass which makes anchoring and getting underway again nice and easy.

When heading ashore, a tender complete with outboard motor and oars is available for your use.

Skippers must hold RYA Yachtmaster Offshore practical or equivalent documented experience.
