Help

In general this will be at the discretion of the boat owner, although some European countries do require an ICC certificate (equivalent to RYA Day Skipper) for boats over a certain size. An RYA Day Skipper certificate is usually a safe bet for most boats; or submit a sailing CV if you’ve done a lot of boating but never taken this out. Smaller boats will need less experience, but boat owners will usually like to know that you’ve at least handled a boat before.

If in doubt ask the boat owner, and there’s always the option of booking a skipper for the trip. This has its own benefits and will allow you to kick back with your family and friends; relax into the sail whilst someone else gets you from A to B. Hosts are also available for meal provisioning, and full crews for larger boats. See the optional extras on each individual boat listing for what’s available.

We say that 6-8 weeks a year is as much as is realistic to expect on average. There’s more chance of getting to nearer the top end of this with favourable reviews on the site and positive customer feedback. Just choose the dates you want to use your boat for, then leave it to us to fill it on the other weeks.

Generally we advise that it will not be possible to make any significant profit, but chartering your boat out will likely cover annual running costs of the boat, including mooring fees, insurance and maintenance costs.

Largs,United Kingdom (0 reviews)

Details

Kea is a fabulous Sun Odyssey 44i, designed by naval architect Philippe Briand, is true to the Jeanneau tradition, and as is to be expected from Jeanneau, has a superb quality of finish that offers a bright contemporary interior highlighted in fine teak and comes with abundant storage.

The 44i has a spacious and airy interior married to a magnificent cockpit, and is a capable, strong and fast passage maker.

There are many excellent details in the design, including an injection moulded deck which is 300kg lighter than a conventional deck, with the weight saving adding to performance and improving motion at sea. Jeanneau have produced a luxurious yacht that reportedly sails beautifully.

The 44’s large cockpit features a spacious dining area with large folding table and storage. Twin helm steering keeps the cockpit open, with easy access to the aft transom while moored. The winches are located near the helms, for easy sail handling by a reduced crew. A large sail area offers great performance.

Inside, the contemporary interior features a spacious saloon with table convertible to double berth and fully equipped galley with large fridge and separate feezer, twin sinks and cooker with three burners, grill and oven. Opening hatches, ports and long saloon windows allow for plenty of light and ventilation. 10 berths in four double cabins plus 1 double in main saloon as shown in sketch. The forecabins can convert to two singles. Two toilets with showers. Hot and cold pressurised water system heated from shore power immersion heater and the engine. Full Webasto warm air central heating to all cabins.

Skippers must hold RYA Yachtmaster Offshore practical or equivalent experience. Please check verbally with Flamingo Yacht Charters regarding experience.
