Borrow a Boat In Spain
Spain was a crucial player in the Golden age of exploration- Christopher Columbus sailed for Spain when he discovered the West Indies – famously looking for a sea route to India. Today, you too can be part of Spain’s maritime experience- why not charter a boat from Barcelona (after spending the weekend in this vibrant city, enjoying the wine and tapas and exploring the architecture of Gaudi) and set course for Palma de Mallorca – a yachting haven nestled under the great cathedral. Circumnavigate the island before exploring the other islands of the Balearics…or alternatively try island hopping around another great island chain- the Canary Islands in the Atlantic. The islands’ famous black and white sands, sub-tropical climate and important natural attractions make it a year-long destination. Spanish galleons used the Canaries as their main stopover en route to the Americas- perfect for catching the prevailing northeasterly trade winds.
