Qualifications for borrowing a boat
No sailing experience is required for any skippered charters or bareboat charters where skippers are added as an extra.
For a bareboat charter – individual boat owners set the minimum requirements for their own boat about who is eligible to charter, and some may require more experience than others. In most locations in the Med and Caribbean an ICC (equivalent to RYA Day Skipper) will be enough, although some boat owners may request a higher level than this if they choose to. Some qualifications can be transferred to ICC simply by filling in a form, with no further course participation required.
In cases where you have a lot of sailing experience but have not taken the formal qualifications a Sailing CV may be acceptable. If in doubt submit one to the boat owner and ask them.
Boat borrowers are responsible for ensuring that they comply with local laws.
