Matt Ovenden – CEO & Founder
Matt is a serial entrepreneur with a passion for boating. Having founded and lead 3 successful startups over the last 8 years, Matt has formed Borrow A Boat to bring innovation to the boating sector and open up boating for all.
An engineer by training, Matt has gravitated towards innovative approaches in new technology and in disrupting and modernising industries for the new digital age. Matt has a passion for new business models on emerging trends and technology, and is used to growing successful businesses from scratch through the phases of growth, with successful exits achieved. Matt likes to build exciting motivated teams that deliver great results and create a company culture at the same time that is engaging and fun to work with.
When not working can be found bobbing about on a boat somewhere with his family and 3 kids under 6!
Alex Waite – COO
Alex brings a lifetime of boating experience and enthusiasm to this dynamic team. With a background working in the City blended with a love of being on the water Alex is never short of ideas and suggestions to get our clients out on their next adventures.
Calm, collected and analytical on land and at sea he is instrumental in driving BorrowaBoat forward.
He joins from his previous role as a Director of a maritime security company and is a commercially endorsed RYA Yachtmaster with a penchant for loud trousers.
Alastair Miles – CPO
Alastair brings experience in digital marketing, advertising and product management to the team. Previously from VE Interactive he is an expert in UX design and website product development and optimisation.
Alastair’s a Londoner and regular around the Old Street / Tech Roundabout community region, but can be found supporting Norwich City football team at weekends.
Luke Brennan – Boat Acquisition
Luke is Borrow A Boat’s liaison for our boat owners. He will help them
through the upload process and ensure that they are making the most of the service.
With an entrepreneurial spirit, Luke has set up his own businesses in the past and this time he is happy to play a supporting role.
Already a keen surfer and dinghy sailing instructor he is now also the proud holder of the Power Boat Level 1 and 2 qualification.
Sam Fortescue – Writer
Sam is and has been since he can remember an avid sailor. His other great
hobby in life is writing – about sailing! Although he would call it a hobby, he has made a great career out of marine journalism and was editor of Sailing Today magazine for 5 years.
As a keen sailor Sam was delighted to see the innovative approach Borrow A Boat has taken to make sailing more accessible to the masses and he hopes that by writing great informative and exciting articles he can help to bring people aboard.
Zoe Ovenden – Travel Writer
Travel enthusiast, travel writer, doctor and Mum of 3 – Matt’s wife Zoe lives life to the full, and shares her love of travel and insights in Borrow A Boat’s blogs and articles – look out for Zoe’s top tens coming soon!
